Default Health Insurance for Poker Players

Quick question that someone will know more about than me.

As some know I've been playing for my only source of income for a year now and full time since May. While in school I was covered for health insurance under my dads awesome plan that he got through his job. When they found out I was no longer going to school they gave me the option to extend this coverage, which is a premium coverage that includes everything imaginable, for 36 months.

I've heard good health insurance is semi impossible for full time players so I elected to extend the coverage. The downside is that it's costing me 415 bucks a month.

The upside is that they will pay for Lasik eye surgery, but I'm still wondering the amount you other full time players are paying for good health insurnace.

On a side note, I'd need good insurance because I play rugby as well as many other sports, so don't respond telling me to go with bare minumum coverage because I don't want to chance getting a random injury and not being covered properly.

So, is 415 too much? What is reasonable?

Thanks,
Jon

Well in that case. Get the surgery as soon as possible. Then cancel the insurance and find something much much cheaper.

IMO, $415/month is outrageous.

i read in last month's cardplayer about the situation with health insurance for poker players. what is the deal with that? why are premiums so high? does anyone have any insight?

I knew that was high but I was curious to whether it was high or insanely high. It looks like the latter.

Seems I will be looking into other insurance this week. Any ideas for best places to go?

A year ago I got a years worth from a company named fortis for a bit more than your paying per month. It had a high deductable, which i wanted. I must say though, that I'm not sure if it was real or it was just a scam because I never had to make a claim.
