Default $22 ITM Suspect a trap

Villian had been playing pretty well with the big stack. This was the first time he had limped in so I suspected a trap. Any thoughts on how to play this?

I push, but I'm not the one who has seen villian play 80 hands.

As long as you realize that the default play is a push, which is ridiculously +ev and cev and should almost never be deviated from, I don't think it's terrible to follow a read that says otherwise.

I think his limp is his way of telling you "let's take out villain together, I'll make it cheap for you."

I push.

A little post-flop play never hurt anyone. Check and play for set value on the flop. SB is going broke on blinds and will be pushing air the next couple of hands anyway.

I think taking a flop with 99 reallllly kills its value. It's just way too strong preflop to not push here.

Apologies in advance:

That being said I push this 99% of the time unless I'm absolutely convinced my read is correct (i.e. he's been playing the bully consistently and this is a major deviation in his normal play).

Wow You're good! He did in fact have aces. I pushed, he called and there was nothing left to do but river quads.

If he had flat pushed would you have called him down with your 99? What about if he did a regular raise?

I don't think I would have called a push. If he had raised, I probably would push
