[ QUOTE ] It's the same word used to hijack any thread on OOT. Gorditas. [/ QUOTE ] I prefer Chalupas. Steak Chalupas with the Baja flavoring. Mmmm... [/ QUOTE ] Yes. clearly Chalupas > Gorditas. However, I prefer the Beef Baja to the steak. |

Re: code word for hijack
I cracked up when I read this and thought what if the word was something like "affirmative" or "altitude".

Re: code word for hijack
If he was changing his transponder code and accidentally set it to 7500, he would be squaking the code for hijack. It happens from time to time, so it's drilled into you pretty hard in flight training to never let that happen.

Re: code word for hijack
It's not really a word, it's a code called a "transponder code". It's a 4 digit number that you can set on your transponder, and these identify your aircraft to ATCs. Besides the codes that the ATC assigns you, there are a few numbers reserved for emergencies. The one for hijacking is 7500.
On older transponders, each digit has it's own dial. An ATC will frequently assign you new codes as you get passed on between controllers, and you need to dial in the new codes. Suppose your old code was 6500, and the ATC assigns you 8544, you have to be careful not to dial the first dial first, because you will pass 7, temporarily squaking 7500 and causing this sort of thing. |

Re: code word for hijack
I did make a mistake though, there is no 8544 squawk, since they only go up to 7 (been five years since I flew last). But the idea is still correct.
