Default confession of a cardroom rookie.

So, I decided to head on up to Loovul again and give Caesar's Indiana another shot last night. What a difference a day makes.

I started off ok, and then a man who appeared to be a mild-mannered clerical type, but played a wild and aggressive game sat on my left and started straddlin'. All of a sudden I'm in the worst seat in the house. I folded what seemed like Waaaay too many hands preflop, as I'm not fond of cold-calling 3 or 4 bets with cheese, until I finally got the seat two to his left. After I had climbed partway out of my hole, he seemed to figure out that If I had position on him in a ring game he was going to be crushed. I have a feeling he doesn't like me very much . I gave him him my best "I own you" look just before he left. The game got better after that, and I still had position on another LAG. I played at that table until all the weak players busted out.

It was late/early and I was moved to the only 5/10 table left. Naturally, the only game in town was NOT soft. Without going into specifics, there were a few loose/weak players who came (and went) here and there, perhaps one or two who were in a state of denial about their poker results, and the rest seemed either LAG or TAG. If I could have moved two seats to my left I think I would have walked out of there with alot of bets, but I couldn't move, of course. I held my own OK, (or so I choose to believe) though as I have said before, I'm only good enough to beat soft low limit games, and this was a loose and aggressive game, with the maniac on my left.

The conversation was good. The fellow on my right was fun to talk with, and I got a kick out of telling a few stories. I also enjoyed lots of snickers, giggles, and more than my share of belly laughs.

Here's a couple of tidbits:

1) One gentleman actually came out and told me that he had cheated at online poker. . Of course the conversation at a poker table provides, at best, unreliable information, so I took it for what it was worth.

2) Saying the word "online" on a riverboat is a mistake. I will never do it again. Before I aborted the ensuing argument by apologizing for broaching the subject, the following statements were made:

a) "I have a buddy who has a list of 100 winning hands where the board paired and there were three suited yadda... ( I confess I stopped listening). I asked him when he stopped talking, "Did you say one...hundred...hands?" He didn't seem to get it.

b) "But man in those sit-n-go's, every hand is suited". I am telling the absolute truth. This was said at a poker table in New Albany, Indiana on Friday night, by someone who apparently thinks he can play poker.

My favorite hand of the night went like this: I'm on the button with Ax hearts. UTG limps, a gazillion callers, I raise, everybody calls. Unpaired flop with two hearts. MP bet, called to me, I raise, nobody drops, an EP check-raise, nobody's goin' anywhere, 3 to me on the button, I say "Cool" and cap it. everybody calls. Turn looks like the straight made it. Everybody checks to me, I take the infinite odds on my nut draw and whiff. River action: Checked to the button. I check and say "I lose", and am told to show my cards, Since i closed the action with my flop cap.

Overall I had the best experience I have ever had in a casino. Including my associated costs like tips, food, etc., I walked out about $300 lighter and twelve hours older than I was when I walked in, and I wouldn't have missed it for the world.

As for the Room:

1) The dealers in my games were outstanding.

2) The service was exceptional, from the wait staff to the cashiers, on through the people working the floor, the security staff, and even to the nice cleaning lady who pointed out the chip on the floor at the empty end of the cardroom.

3) Everything that came up at the tables was handled professionally.

I'm not sure they're gonna let you keep posting here as long as you go saying nice things about casino staff.
