If I'm not recalling incorrectly, I think Kerry is anti-gambling too.

[/ QUOTE ]

Actually I believe he has been quoted that gambling and prostitution is nothing more than a nuisance, like terrorism. So if you like gambling, prostitution and terrorism then Kerry is your man.

You are taking that quote out of context.

If so not by much, <Full Quote>

"October 10, 2004
"We have to get back to the place we were, where terrorists are not the focus of our lives, but they're a nuisance," Kerry said. "As a former law-enforcement person, I know we're never going to end prostitution. We're never going to end illegal gambling. But we're going to reduce it, organized crime, to a level where it isn't on the rise. It isn't threatening people's lives every day, and fundamentally, it's something that you continue to fight, but it's not threatening the fabric of your life."

Which is the more likely result of any drive to get more people to the polls?

A) The uninformed will get informed and vote responsibly.

B) The uninformed will vote without bothering to learn about the issues and go home satisfied that they have done the rest of us a favor.

If you chose A, I've got a nice bridge for sale.

[/ QUOTE ]

The answer is B and sadly what both political parties want to happen.

[/ QUOTE ]

Does the fact that both parties want as many uninformed voters as possible imply that neither party thinks informed voters will vote for them?

Well, Partisan hacks can do a damn good job with that quote.

Another thing to consider is that the presidential election isn't the only thing that you can vote on. There are probably many state and local ballot measures that will have an impact on you and your community.

Yes, that's a good point. I should have said that I was referring specifically to this Presidential election.

Just because you know more doesn't make your vote count any more or less.

[/ QUOTE ]

That's the problem! Any lazy idiot's vote counts exactly the same as the vote of someone who actually bothered to put forth the time and effort to become informed about the issues.

I'd really love to see voting machines with a basic civics test built in. If you fail the civics test, you're obivously too ignorant to have any say in the future of our country and the machine would automatically discard your vote.
