TT overpair

So did I play this correctly, or am I misapplying concepts?

5/10 limit, live casino, very loose and very passive preflop. Rarely raised PF, and usually 5+ players to the flop, to see the entire table limp is not unusual. I pick up TT in EP and limp, expecting plenty of limpers behind me. It's 5 to a rainbow flop of 9xx. I bet the flop and everyone calls to the last guy who raises. The raiser was a young kid who had been playing a reasonably tight PF game, but I had him pegged as being a bit donkish. He had flipped over some strange holdings in the past.

At this point I'm thinking 2pr is unlikely given the raggedy board, although I wouldn't discount it completely, a set is much more likely, but for all I knew he might just have top pair, or it could be a complete donkbet with something like AK which he forgot to raise PF so he's doing it now (Not likely but I've seen it happen when some players believe bluffing and playing deceptively is the only way to win). Anyways I thought I still might have the best hand, and if I don't there is enough dead money in the pot to justify calling for the times that I'm wrong. Here's the situation though, if I 3 bet the flop, it's unlikely to narrow the field much, if at all. There's not a lot of respect for small bets on the flop, no matter how many there are, especially when these players have enough of a hand to call my initial bet, they're going to want to see another card and I doubt 3 betting would stop that from happening. An argument could be made for 3 betting anyways, based on the equity edge I almost certainly have here since lots of worse hands would call, but TT is such a vulnerable holding, I wanted to wait for a safe card on the turn. First of all, is it reasonable enough to believe that I might have the best hand here (of course if I don't I'm way behind) to justify even calling the flop here? And second of all the pot was pretty big and I didn't believe a flop raise would protect my hand, was I correct in waiting for a safe card on the flop or should I have pumped up the pot with my vulnerable holding just for the equity edge I had? Since the flop raise came from my right waiting for the turn to check raise was particularly appealing, which is what I ended up doing, but was this the correct play?
