Default DHL buh-LOWS!!!!

Dell ships my 2001FP early last week, and DHL estimated the arrival time to be last Friday. I call last Wednesday and request that they wait to deliver it until today (Monday), because I wasn't home during the day last week. They say "Okay, we've noted it in our 'computer', and we'll inform the driver."

Okay. Sounds good. Everything seems to be under control. This morning I get up and check the tracking web site and see that they had attempted to deliver the package last Thursday AND last Friday unsuccessfully. Well, duh, I told you bastards I wouldn't be home during the day. What's even more interesting: there wasn't a single sign of a delivery notice.

So then, around 10am, I call them to see what's up. They respond: "Ah yes, we tried to deliver your package last week unsuccessfully. The driver will be trying again today."
"Ok, thanks. What time could I expect that?"
"It'll be in the afternoon."
"Great."

I wait. And wait. I don't leave the house. Cancel my afternoon plans. Finally, it's 5pm. I call them back. "Hey, what gives?" "Oh. The driver didn't actually take it out. It's still here. But you can come pick it up if you like? We close at 6:30pm"

Now the real fun begins. I drive across town, into the dark industrial depths of San Francisco. And join 5 other happy campers huddled in a room with two chairs and staring at an empty desk. I wait. Eventually, a woman comes back and says to someone "Sir, they're looking for your package. Does anybody else need assistance?" I give her my tracking number and she disappears again. 10 minutes later she comes back and comforts me: "they're looking for your package" This continues. 4 more folks arrive and are informed that their package is being sought. Some folks are starting to boil. Others are trying in vain to find humor in how utterly ridiculous the situation is. A series of differnt women and men, about 6 overall, come back at various points to make sure everyone is being helped.

One guy waiting closest to the desk finally loses it and reaches over and holds down the electric buzzer...he holds it for over a minute with the rest of us staring at him, until someone shows up again. "Can I help you sir? Are you not being helped?" "NO. NO, I'm not. This is not 'being helped.' People are supposedly 'looking for my package'. But obviously they are of no help, as I've been here for over an hour." This goes on. 1 person will get their package and 2 other people will show up." 6:30 passes. And the number of folks starts to subside. Some sickly woman with walking pneumonia shows up and says she's leaving the country tomorrow and waited outside all day for her package and has to have it now.

Around 7:30, EVERYONE BUT ME, has either received their package or left. One of the esteemed members of the DHL elite approaches me: "I'm SOOOO sorry sir. We believe we have located your package, but it's behind 4 other 'huts'. To get it out will take me another half an hour. Would you like to wait or have me deliver it tomorrow?"

Yep. I'm not kidding. It's just too rich. Where are the hidden cameras?
"Will YOU deliver it tomorrow?"
"Yes. I swear I know what your package looks like. And your place is on my route. Anytime you want, I'll bring it by."
"Fine. Bring it in the morning. Thanks" And I leave.

F*ckers.

I've heard several other people complain about DHL too, although I haven't had any problems with them. My 2001FP is being shipped via UPS, I hope to get it tomorrow.

People were saying they'd just bought out Airborne express. Maybe merging the companies has everything all f&cked up.
There's seriously something very wrong with this company. It's not Christmas or anything.

I would recommend to anyone else that they PAY EXTRA for another carrier before taking a chance with DHL.

You should also know that DHL routinely opens packages to search for contraband; pornography, drugs, money, etc. It is NOT first class mail, not even the letter packs or whatever they are called, and the searches are perfectly legal. And yes, they DO willing inform the authorities of anything suspicious that they find.

UPS is hit or miss depending on your UPS guy
FED ex is great. I swear it is the only company that is great to deal with
I am a cheap basterd but I happily pay a little extra for fedex
Now as for DHL they use your packages as soccer balls and theyre software is made by the same four year olds that made pacific pokers software.
Whatever they dont lose they break. When the guys rings your bell you have 3 seconds to answer it or he runs away
I love DHL

I was never very big on the Fed Ex vs UPS thing. Both seemed to work really well for me (have never used DHL).

Since moving to Memphis I've noticed it a little bit more...since this is where FedEx is located and I know a few people who work there...orhave worked there.

I generally have come to have more appreciation for the amount of freight FedEx ships back and forth across the country on a daily basis (although some of their employees aren't exactly thrilled with the operation there).

But, then again, it seems that many of my deliveries (computer stuff....or a 2+2 book or something) comes via UPS and the delivery guy in my neighborhood is a REALLY nice guy and is extremely reliable.
If ALL of the delivery services (including USPS) were like this guy then everything would be dandy everywhere in the world.

I worked briefly as a security guard for a warehouse of Cingular Wireless.
They had switched from UPS to FedEX shortly before I got there. As a guard I was supposed to observe the shipments, blah blah blah.
I learned from some of the cingular officials that they ditched UPS because they would ship a few hundred cell-phones to Dallas or somewhere and half of the boxes would come up missing.
I guess they have occasional problems with FedEx as well....just not as frequently.

came from a couple of individuals at the Cingular warehouse who I generally trusted....but I can't fully say that their claims that they had so much stolen by delivery services are accurate or not.

Glad to see someone had a good exp with FedEx. I had a nightmare problem that never was completely resolved on my first instance with them. I'll be sticking with the USPS to ship items.
