If all effect has a cause, and all cause is the effect of a previous cause, then it is impossible for their to be an initial cause of anything and the past existence of the "universe" is infinite.
Corollary, if all cause has effect then there will never cease to be the effect of the cause before it, and the existence of the "universe" will be infinite. The "universe" is in quotations as it is meant to be symbolic of whatever it is we live in, and not pertaining to the large body of physical matter that we call the Universe.
