Default Post a poker variation you\'ve made up

What the title says. I'll start.

Just like hold 'em except deal 3 cards. Everyone discards one. Carry on play like normal.

We used to do that years back when short handed under the notion that it would kinda make the game more like full ring.

Also used to play "Stud Holdem", where each player gets two down cards and one up card, and they can use any combo of their first three cards with the community board. It was a headache.

Used to play a fair amount of Penochle Poker, basically holdem with the penochle deck, obviously very similar to the new "Royal Holdem"

Didnt event it, but highly recommend adding Vanunu to a home/dealers choice game, very fun and stimulating.

omaha8, but you can use any combination of hole and board cards
a steel wheel splitting with a higher straigh flush was not uncommon

This game is known as "fifty-five" or "Cincinnati" - the nut peddling will now commence.

Great game for rocks - if you don't start with a monster you'll rarely wind up with one.

Exception - draws to a 4 card wheel that allow for a straight flush

There is a section in a John Scarne book that deals with strange variants; trust me when I tell you it is the only worthwhile part of this book.

It's shocking what passed for "how to manuals" prior to the late 70s publication of SuperSystem, TOP, HoldemPoker, HFAP).

NO, this is not "cincinnati."

Cincinnati is 5 card draw + Holdem community cards and rules... best 5 of your remaining ten

Although I just googled it Cincinnati poker and the first site I read discribed a game where you are initially dealt 5 hole cards then the community cards come out one at a time to 5 and best 5 of your liking win.
-there was someone in my old (2 years ago) home poker game that used to call "lame brain pete" which is cincinnati only low hole or lowest on board is wild. If you don't have quads or better, you probably should have mucked last round.

Minnesota Hold'em:

Everyone is given six cards in their hand, then there is a flop, a turn, a river, then there are two more streets. Use any combination.

This is only good as a drinking game, where you have to finish your drink each time you lose your chips.

So it's just Pineapple with a preflop discard rather than a postflop discard?

From my home game. We call it Blue Steel (why, I don't know, and I was there the night it was invented)

Everyone is dealt 5 cards. Eight common cards are placed in the middle. Four in a square at the center, with the remaining four around the outside, each with one corner touching the outside corner of one of the center cards.

You must use exactly 3 from your hand *and* two cards from the board that touch. In other words, the outside cards can only be used with the one card they each touch, and the inside cards with the four they touch. The board cards are flopped 2 at a time in a predetermined order.

The game is played hi-low declare (all our games are).

Sick friggin game.

Hold Em with two betting rounds, preflop and flop. Game is over after the flop.
