Default Vegas Trip Report 9-14 to 9-18 (long)

"Ten Pounds of Vegas in a Five Pound Sack"

This was my second trip. Accompanying me was C, this being her first trip. We departed Minneapolis late Wednesday night. Thanks to Northwest we were delayed an hour. I lost $10 playing Roshambo with C. She then gave me an over/under on the number of Harley t-shirts we'd see on our flight of 5. I took the over and won.

We arrived at the Belliago, checked in, and slept. Yes, a pretty boring start...but we made up for it.

Thursday, we immediately visited the poker room office and received our rating cards for the poker rate. I'm shocked at how good of a deal this is. It's was the equivalent of $30/hour over the course of the weekend.

C played 4/8, while I took my shot at 15/30. I've been playing 6/12 and 8/18 at Canterbury for 6 months now, and was planning on giving 15/30 a go while in Vegas this time. My second hand at the table, I don't recall how it went, but by the time we hit the flop, it was capped with 7 players. I ended up going on a great rush, hitting two sets of quads in a couple of hours. We broke for lunch at Noodles, and then played some more. Ended up +$360.

Pro sightings: Ivey, Sexton, Chan, Men, Williams, Greenstien, a couple of others that I recognized, but couldn't name.

We spent the rest of the evening walking the strip. I think we hit the Vegas equivalent of the Triple Witching Hour. It was a full moon, it was Fight Night weekend, and it was Vegas Bike week. Yeah baby. We pigged out at the Harley Cafe. I jokingly asked if Harley-Owner's-Group members got a discount, and indeed, they do. w00t.

We played some 2/4 at the MGM. I thought about donking it up and buying in for some ridiculous amount, but decided against. First time I've ever played with a dealer named Tip. He was the butt of many, many jokes over his down. Ended up -$10.

Back to the Belliago. We decided to pound out some more hours for the poker rate, both of us playing 4/8 this time. It was a pretty fun, late-night type of table. I did have a nice runner-runner-full house, ended up +$98.

We were up early on Friday. C had a manicure/pedicure combo at the spa. I opted for the straight razor shave instead. Worm is right, it's just the thing after a long session. I squeezed in half an hour of 15/30 while waiting for C to finish. Half an hour you say? Why bother? Well, thankfully the poker gods compressed 6 hours of premium hands into that half hour, and I cashed out +$209.

We had the Belliago buffet for lunch, then headed out to the Stratosphere. We sprung for the unlimited rides package and really had a good time. The coaster is rather unremarkable, as compared to NYNY's that we rode the night before. However the Big Shot made up for it, that sucker pulls 4 gee's on lift off. XScream and Insanity were pretty good too.

I love how everywhere in Vegas worth going, they channel you through either the casino, or a long hall of stores. On our way out of the Stratosphere tower, C found a ring vendor, and ordered one. It was an hour wait until it'd be ready. We killed the time wandering around, until we heard "Open seating at 2/4". The Stratosphere poker "room" is nothing special. But hey, it's action, right? +$10

While on top of the Stratosphere, I saw the Hilton, and realized we had forgotten the Star Trek Experience! C and I are both fans of the Star Trek franchise, and we enjoyed the Experience very much.

We went downtown to "experience" Freemont street. And we ran into 100,000 of our closest Harley friends. The place was a zoo. We hid inside the Nugget and grabbed a quick dinner before heading over to Binion's. Played some 2/4 there in un-remarkable fashion and ended up at -$10. Got 5x that in free drinks though.

Saturday: C enjoyed the spa so much, she scheduled a facial and massage for this morning. While she was there, I was back at the 15/30. The game was tougher than the others so far. One interesting hand I saw was a nit local raise from late position, and is only called by the big blind. Check bet call, check bet call, check bet on the river. The nit thought that the BB called the river, and tables AQ for top two pair. BB asks the dealer if he can raise, and does so. Nit nearly blows his top, but calls. BB shows down 68 for a rivered trips. -$40.

Saturday night, we had dinner at Craftsteak. Now, I know that here in the B&M Forum, that steak comes up every once in a while. Craftsteak will be my recommendation from now on out. I've had some pretty damn good steaks. Well, there is a new gold standard. I opted for the special, Australian raised Kobe-stock fillet, while C got the domestic Japanese Kobe fillet. They were so good, I had to stop and give thanks for the cow that gave it's life for me to eat. C blessed in respond blessed the Japanese guy that lovingly massaged her cow with beer. I'm not one to blow $160 on a 8 oz piece of meat. But it was worth every damn cent.

We had front row tickets for Penn & Teller, so we cabbed it over to the Rio. We had 15 minutes to kill, so I sat down for some blackjack. Left +$95. Enjoyed the show. C wanted to play some blackjack. Left -$95. Boo.

Next up, the Wynn. The room is decent. I don't care for the pillars myself, I'd prefer something more open. Staff was good, the 4/8 game was great. One remarkable hand, one that will stay with me a long while. I have J [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]T [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. Flop comes A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]Q [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. Early position donkey bets out, folded to me, I raise. Folded back to donkey who calls. Turn as 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. Donkey bets, I raise, he raised, I raise, he asks the dealer if he can raise again. "Unlimited heads up raising. Just say all in if you want" Donkey raises again. I say "All in", and the he calls. I'm figuring him for 99 for a set, or JT for a split pot. He shows A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] for top two pair. River comes Q [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], and he hits his 4 outer, 9% shot to take down a $400 pot. Our table was screaming so much the floor came over. Yeah, that sucked. Later on, I also had 77 vs T2 on a board of TT7 with a 2 on the turn that stung. Won some pots to finish -$160.

Sunday, we packed and flew out. Northwest was delayed, again. Bah.

Final trip total: +$423

Can't wait to go back.

Glad you asked. The room itself was okay. I liked the electronic list. I hated the marble on the tables. Staff was good, but game selection wasn't so good. I didn't see anything higher that 4/8 going.

Bellagio, and it wasn't even close. The one thing about it I didn't get was they have FOUR brushes. I could see having two, one high and one low. But 4? One for 4/8 and 8/16, then another for 15/30, 30/60, and 40/80 I think. Then one for the high limit area, and another for Bobby's Room. I mean really, how often does Bobby's room have a list?

Good write up and a fun read. It looks as though I'm going to win my fantasy baseball league, with 1st place being a paid trip to Vegas, so seeing as I'm going to bring the skirt with me, I appreciate the tale.
