Default Krauthammer on Negative Politics

On C-SPAN, Charles Krauthammer is doing an interview. The interviewer began reading off some quotes from www.brainyquote.com. One of the quotes was this:
[ QUOTE ]
Every two years the American politics industry fills the airwaves with the most virulent, scurrilous, wall-to-wall character assassination of nearly every political practitioner in the country - and then declares itself puzzled that America has lost trust in its politicians.

[/ QUOTE ]
And Krauthammer recalled what he was writing about saying that if the airline industry attacked each other the way the Dems and GOP do (highlighting accidents etc), no one would ever ride an airplane.

Any opinions on this? I agree that negativity is increasingly prevalent in politics (SBVT, F 9-11, etc), but can we do anything about it?

You asking this question is analagous to a serial killer asking if we can do anything to reduce crime rates.
