Maybe a n00b question, but what would be the reasoning to lead out on the river after calling down? (or did you mean only when a scare card comes?)

You bet the river after check/calling the whole way in case the villain has been betting the flop and turn with KK or QQ and plans to take a free showdown with the A on board. If this is the case and you check, you miss out on a bet.

I agree. That's why I would probably check/call the river as well here.

check-call river or bet-fold to raise on river. Any other lines is possible here???

Just to clarify, I think check/calling the river here is OK IF you call down on the flop and turn. But as it played out I bet the river and fold to a raise. I think a bluff raise is highly unlikely given the line you took.
