Default Where to? How to?

Hi all,

Online player - mostly micro-limits pretty sucessful so far (approx 6BB/hr over my first 5000 hands in paradise/party 1/2).... kill my home games (doesn't count for much either I'm afraid) and ready to hit a B&M for the first go at live casino poker.

I'm in NYC and not sure which casino to hit - probably a mid week trip in mid decemeber - (too much family/girl friend stuff going on on the weekends - and I have some vacation time to blow at work.)

Which casino? (A/C or Foxwoods? - if A/C trump, borgata is there any other options?)
What table limits are closest in play style to 1/2 paradise?
Where can I read the things I need to know before I walk in and embarrass myself? (Obviously I'll watch a few orbits before I jump in for the first time - but would rather be prepared than surprised..)

Thanks in advance for your assistance to this newbie!

HR- I am in the same situation as you, an NYC 1/2 online player (with a little 2/4 mixed in) with not much B&M experience. I've played a bit in Vegas and for a day at the Trop in AC, and am taking a day next month to try Foxwoods for the 1st time.

Do a search for your topic, b/c I asked exactly the same question about a month ago. Quick synopsis, in AC choose between the Borgata (new, clean, better food & drink) and the Taj (kinda dumpy but much juicier games); or the Woods, which has a ton of juicy games, but the downside is its the only place around so if you don't find a table you like you're stuck.

I chose to hit the Woods this time, because I want to be able to say I've played there. As far as limits go - our online experiences are very comparable, and I'm going to start at the FW 2/4 with the expectation to move to the 3/6 or 4/8 sometime during the day, so maybe you can use that as a guide.

Hope this helps, run a search for additional (maybe more accurate) info. Good luck, and post a report.

They don't spread 3/6 at Foxwoods. 2/4, 4/8, 5/10 (kill at $100), 10/20, 20/40.

How much difference do you see between the quality of play in the 2/4 and 4/8 games? Just as beatable, or filled with stronger players? Say for instance, on a random friday afternoon/night in December. Thx.

The 4/8 will tend to play about like 1/2 online games. The real tough part about the 2/4 is that you'll frequently be at a table with people who have *never* played Hold'em before.

I don't recommend going on a weekday. You won't find the best games then. Weekends and evenings are the best. Thre graveyard shift (past 10PM) is even better.

If you go on the weekends, I think you will find the games at any of the casinos to be easier than the online 1/2 games. The low limit games are normally very loose/passive. You may think you've seen loose games online, but you aint seen nothing yet.

If you want to make sure you know the rules, the Borgota has a printed rulebook up front. I don't think any of the other rooms have that.

Nothing to worry about, most people are very welcoming to new players. If you have any questions, just ask the dealers.

I've only played in the Borgata 6/12 a couple times, but it's always been pretty juicy and a lot like a paradise 1/2. Any ace, and any two suited were both sitting at my table at every visit.

It's a nice room too, if you go to the Borgata for a few hours, then sit at the Taj for a few hours, I guarantee you'll find yourself wanting the ultrasuede tables, clean chips and better surroundings of the Borg.
