Why does PartyMine want to talk to the internet?
I posted this on the PartyMine forums:
[ QUOTE ] When it starts up, PartyMine tries to connect to a site on the internet. If I let it connect, it then tries to act as a server. Why? Oh, and the obligatory thanks: this is really useful, has a nice, clean interface and is very easy to use. Thanks! [/ QUOTE ] but haven't gotten a reply yet. My firewall is keeping PartyMine from talking to the outside world, but I'm still curious. Anyone know the answer? |

Re: Why does PartyMine want to talk to the internet?
I think it is part of the distributed mining options. (ie it is trying to see if any other instances are mining on your local subnet)
I seem to remember prodigy saying that you can disable the distributed features in one of his posts. |

[/ QUOTE ] You can disable it, but at this time it still tries to open ports for communication. I use distributed mining... its amazing. TT [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] |

I'm not sure, but I think that's a "special" IP address that only works on the local network. Does anyone know for sure? Aha .. google(partymine distributed mining) yields this thread where the program author says basically the same thing. Thanks. |

Re: Why does PartyMine want to talk to the internet?
It's not trying to connect to the internet, that IP is only valid on your local system. It just appears that way to yourfirewall.
The final release will have a activation step which will require a one time connection to verify your activation information. |
