Poorly played full house

Another hand from a 1-2 live game in which I cashed out after a profitable night. I am dealt 44 in the SB and call a preflop raise of $10. The flop comes A4T rainbow. I check and the button bets $25, I raise to $50 and he calls. Turn card is another A and I again check, but this time only call his $45 bet. River is a 2 and I check, he checks behind. I win a nice sized pot (there were 4 or 5 callers preflop) but I feel I could have busted the player who checked down his AJ. I had a feel he was on AT for the full house, but I said to myself I would call any bet on the river, and was trying to check raise. I'm thinking lead out at the river for about 3/4 the pot. Does anyone like that line?

I checkraise the turn here for 3x+ his bet so as not to give a free card for a higher full. If he just calls then you have to make a decision on the specific river card although in the case of the 2 I bet again for as much as I think he will call since only 5 specific hands beat yours.

Yes you played this poorly. When the second ace comes in a 1/2 nl game, almost NOBODY can fold trip aces. When the 2nd ace comes you should bet pot on turn and allin river....or c/r min on turn and allin river....something to get the money in.

stack sizes would be helpful, but i agree with putting in a large raise on the turn.

Everyone in games at this limit butches open trips. They CANT lay it down, and it is like their hand is face up on the table. Open trips is NOT the nuts and they when open trips gets action, they get broke. So you should bust this guy. After the large turn raise you can push the river and take his stack.

I had around $500 and he had about $225.

People are saying c/r the turn. But doesn't it look ultra strong to c/r back to back? How about leading the flop and then checkraising the turn. If you led for $30, got a call, and then check the turn, if he bets near the pot you can c/r all-in without it being an overbet (since his stack is only $225). Am I way off here? Is he more likely to fold to the lead flop c/r turn line than c/r flop and c/r turn?

I don't like the flop check minraise on a drawless flop.

I would have folded AJ right there.
