Las Vegas Poker Room rate hotel question

Anyone find a pokerroom that provided a generous pokerroom rate? if so how much.

Also if i get a cheaper hotel in the fremont area, how hard is it to get inbetween them and how much is it by taxi? I dont plan on sleeping much anways [img]/forums/images/icons/smile.gif[/img]

Find the casino you want to play at and dial their main number and ask for the poker room. You can ask whoever answers the phone there what their poker rate is and what is required to get it. The front desk / reservation area can't help you on this one - they defer you to the poker room.

Check out www.cheapovegas.com to get the numbers for various casinos.

As far as staying downtown and cabbing to the strip - you are looking at about $12 or so including tip each way. If you plan on playing on the strip I'd recommend you find some cheap place there. If you don't plan on sleeping much but need 'shelter' - try the Westward Ho. It's pretty much a dump but it's like $39 a night on the weekdays and $49 on the weekends. It's basically right next door to the Stardust - and within a 5 minute walk from your room to poker room there. Forget about walking down to the Mirage or Bellagio though - you are looking at 30 mins or so at least and with the recent road construction you have to cross the street several times to get around it. The good news is - you can walk to the Stardust, catch a cab and pay $5 to get down to the Mirage.

There are some other places you can try - but check out the cheapovegas site and browse each resorts webpage - there are all kinds of specials to be had this time of year, especially if you are willing to stay sun-thurs.

Binion's Horseshoe has summer rates of $29/ night on weekdays. You can stay downtown pretty cheap. And of course play Binion's poker room (I think it's the toughest in town)

The downside is it's a $16 cab ride to the Mirage. I think the Mirage has a $59 summer rate but I'm not sure.

The Luxor has some good summer deals as well.

I think it's a 3 way toss up - Stay at the south end of the strip and play poker at the Luxor, New York New York, Excalibur and Mandalay Bay. or (2) stay mid strip and play the Mirage, Ceasers, Bellagio and TI, or (3) stay on the north end (Freemont Street) and play Binion's, The Nugget, The Freemont and the Plaza.

Another choice is stay off strip and play the Palms, The Rio and the Orleans - The Palms has a nice poker room - good action not too many sharks.

We've found that we pick one of the above and just hang in that hotel group - You really don't lose much and it saves a bunch of cab fare.

decent enough advice, except that I know that the NY NY and Ceaser's Palace don't have poker.

I can't say 100% sure on t he Nugget, Fremont and Plaza but I doubt any of those have poker rooms at all - and if they do they aren't well known.

If you are going to stay downtown you can also get to other casinos by using the bus system. Its easy, they have plenty of buses running the strip route, and it is only $2.

From what I have read the Vegas buses suck. They are every half hour? So if you miss the bus, you will melt before the next one comes, unless it's the winter.....

The buses that run the strip are usually every ten minutes. Plus there are two types, express-every two stops, and the standard- which makes every stop.

The crossing routes can take longer for the wait though. If your unlucky you could wait a half hour.

I would rather go by cab also, but if its just one person its rather expensive. I think if a person plans on using a cab a lot they would be better off renting a car for the week.

I am staying at the Monte Carlo the first week of august for 50 night during the week and 100 a night on the weekend with their poker rate, which requires 5 hours of play per day. The five hours can be cumulative, so if you travel with a friend, you could each play 2.5 hours and satisfy the play requirements.
