Entering a pot with Ax

If you decide to come in late postion with a auited ace low or something like AT-A8 (does anyone play them any lower than this?) are you always coming in for a raise? I have very mixed feelings about the preflop strength of non-premium ace hands shorthanded. what are some strategies for playing such hands?
