Default question about poker in europe

were the games big in casinos before the internet? seems like there are so many top internet pros, especially from scandinavia, curious where they played practiced previously.

also why dont i ever see players from italy, spain, france it all seems to be concentrated in sweedem, finland, and the other scandinavian countries.

Possible reason:

It's cold and nasty a lot in the Scandinavian countries and warm and sunny a lot in the southern European countries.

Not entirely true - there's that French lass who occassionally plays in the WSOP (Marie summat) and there were a few Spanish and Italian and French players at the HU tourney that was televised a few months ago. I guess it depends where you play and where you watch - scandanavians tend (in my experience) to speak better english (or american) than other Europeans.

Or more importantly that there are over 80 card games that are illegal in Italy,(dating back to Mussolini), poker being among them.

Arnfinn Madsen posts on 2+2. He's from Norway and I think he travels in his job. Look around and ask him.
