Cardplayer changed the Gavin hand...

Title: Gavin Griffin Takes a Hit
Log: Gavin Griffin just shipped $160,000 in chips. All the money was in after seeing a flop of 9d-6d-4d and the player in seat #3 showed pocket 4's. Griffin turned over pocket 10's, one being the 10 of diamonds. The turn was the 3 of diamonds, givning Griffin the 10 high flush. The river was a 9, pairing the board and giving Griffin's opponent a full house. The 9 on the river cost Griffin $160,000.

I was on the phone w/ 2+2er Double Eagle when this hand went down.

Gavin raised UTG to 6k. LP called. Blinds folded.

Flop is 945 all diamonds. Gavin bets 6500. LP raises to 15000. Gavin instantly pushes. LP had around 100k to start the hand.
LP tanks for around 4 mins. and finally calls w/ the set of 44.

3d on the turn gives gavin the flush. 9 on the river to fill up LP and he wins a 200k pot.

Default Re: WSOP Day 2: \"Official\" Results, News & Discussion

So when all is said and done there will be a discussion about the fact that the winner was "a pro" or "not a pro". It seems hopelessly unlikely that a pro would win, until you consider now that there may be 200 recognizable pros. But 200 is probably inaccurate. Does anybody have an idea of how many name-pros there are?

"Pro" has less and less meaning these days. Just what is a pro? A tournament name or someone who actually makes money playing online?

After a big tournament win, the casino takes 6% and the government takes >40% when you include state and local. So all but the very best American tournament pros are chumps. Doesn't matter if the fields are weak (and they are for sure) - very few players can overcome a near-50% vig.
