Red Sox vs Red Birds
What do y'all think about the series? Do you think the Cardinals (presumably the best team in baseball) can pull it out? Do you think the Sox will give the curse the finger?
Me personally, I'm going Cardinals in six. |

Re: Red Sox vs Red Birds
Cardinals are going to have to pitch really well--though I think Pedro will choke in his games under the spotlight.
Schilling will most likely do ok...and Wakefield will give anyone trouble if his knuckle is moving. One key might be homefield advantage for the American League. |

Re: Red Sox vs Red Birds
I'm rooting for the RedSox.
However, there is definately value in the Cards. +146 is a good price, especially since STL gets three fat ones in a row at home. If the Cards take one in Boston, its a lot of pressure on the Sox. Furthermore, top to bottom, the Cards got a murderer's row and I don't think Boston has the arms in the middle innings to hold 'em at bay. New York is a feast or famine team, but the Cards can do it all: scratch for runs, manufacture big innings, or play smash ball. I don't see the Sox pitching staff making it through this time. The betting will probably be sentimental and that means its outta whack. With that said, Boston has to win this year - baseball needs a new story. ... well, not this year. The Cards spoil it in 6. though I think Pedro will choke in his games under the spotlight [/ QUOTE ] Please name any instance you remember of Pedro 'choking' in the spotlight. He's started plenty of big games, and has pitched from good to very good in every one. BTW, every single game he pitches is under the spotlight, and he just got threw pitching in Yankee Stadium...compared to which Busch Stadium is an amusement park. |

I\'ll go with pitching
Boston has a good enough offense that the better Sox starting pitching takes this in 6 games.

Game 7 ALCS 2003 [/ QUOTE ] You obviously didn't watch this game. Pedro gave up 2 runs in 7 innings, with his team leading 4-2 (Clemens had lasted 3 innings) It was Grady Little who choked by leaving in a gassed pitcher too long. There isn't a signle knowledgable baseball person who wouldn't respect a "7 innings, 2 runs" line at the beginning of this game. [ QUOTE ] Game 7 ALCS 2004... [/ QUOTE ] You are right! He gave up 2 runs in 1 inning of relief, pitching on 2 days of rest, with his team comfortably ahead! I guess this is a choke! [/ QUOTE ] I did watch the game (and laughed my a$$ off when the Yanks won) and I don't think you can completely blame Little. Does he deserve a share of it? Certainly, but not all. The fact is that Pedro couldn't get the job (that he lobbied for when Little went out there) done. Besides...he only asked for one, so even if you want to throw out last years game 7 I still got this years game 7. I hope all those die hard Sox fans are thinking about how slimming those pinstrips are going to be on him next season. |

Re: Red Sox vs Red Birds
Pedro chokes in that he gets unnerved..this is also why he hits people after getting tagged.
--he can't control his emotions and nerves...3 or 4 years ago his [censored] was so dominating that I don't think he cared as much but he simply isn't that same pitcher anymore...and he can blow a whole game in one inning after pitching 6 or 7 good ones. Thats different from a guy like schilling...who either is going to pitch great or have a off night- he's not going to pitch great for 5/6 innings and then blow it all one inning later. |
