Re: can i lay this down?
Easy...you're usually dominated in this situation and it's a prime spot to lose many chips.

If I had come this far in the hand, I wouldn't lay down my top pair to a bet of 50 into a pot of more than 300. If nothing else, it helps me see how my opponent played whatever hand he was calling with til the river. |

[/ QUOTE ] I think if the OP is willing to bet 50 BOTH on the flop and the turn - I don't see how whe folds the river...even though he is pretty much facing a severe beatage or a push. As for the rest of the hand, this defnitely is NOT the way to play a bad ace oop. if you bet the flop, you should check the turn and possibly fold there depending on the bet back at you. |

[/ QUOTE ] No. If you make a decent sized bet on this flop (>1/2 pot) and get called, there is a very good chance the person who called you can beat top pair weak kicker. It's smart to not lose too many chips with TPWK. It's weak to not try to win the pot at all (i.e., by check/folding the flop or betting very weakly on the flop). P.S. Your villain played this hand rather badly and should have raised you on the turn (especially with the 2 clubs on the flop) or bet more on the river, so you got to showdown rather cheaply here. |
