Default Set gets donked on river on straight card

Villain's unknown.

Board is ktx rainbow. Hero has raised pf vs some limpers at a short table (5-6 players) and gotten a lot of calls. Hero has TT.

Unknown villain calls to river (check-calls) oop, then donkbets on a rivered 9.

KTxx9

It completes QJ, but also T9.

-------

No flush draw has been completed, and I can't remember if there was one on the turn or not.

Villain is completely unknown after four hands.

----------

My line here, which may be retarded, is to raise and fold to a three-bet.

Help!

Are you heads-up on the river? If not, getting overcalls out of the other players might be better.

If you are HU, then I think I'm probably just calling. It's too likely that he's just going to fold to your raise if he's on a complete bluff. I suppose a rivered 2 pair will pay you off, but a rivered 2 pair might also 3-bet...

This is why I play sets fast if there is any kind of coordination on the board (which is often enough). What was the betting like?

I dislike it. You should not take any line which includes the word FOLD in it. Usually, this is a call. In fact, at the moment, I can't think of a situation where I'd raise with it against a non-LAG.

The only time raising the river and folding to a 3-bet is good is if the donk is betting with 2-pair. If he's bluffing, he will either fold to your raise, netting you the same amount as a call, or 3-bet, scooping the pot from you.

Yeah, I'm heads-up. Sorry.

You're right though, going for overcalls in that situation would be great.
