After putting my feet back into the water at 10NL with a new understanding of poker theory and a determination to play LAG, I’m throwing in the towel. I’m just going to play ABC TAG at these stakes. Yeah, I know my sample size isn't nearly big enough, but I don't think I can handle the flucations that are present in this type of playing style.

I believe we are giving up profit by playing so few hands against players that we obviously have an edge against. We should be calling with 97o when a weak-tight player raises 4x from UTG and gets two callers. We should be playing stuff like 6h4h in LP against three limpers. We can outplay these guys post-flop, I know we can. And no, "outplay" does not just mean "bluff them off the best hand." They ain't folding, so that's not what I'm talking about.

no one is telling u how to play, man. the fact is that we all play ssnl and most of have found that a solid TAG style is the most profitable. its not the only way to play winning poker at ssnl, it is just the most popular and probably the easiest. if u want to play a LAGy style go ahead, but first learn what it means and how to play a LAG game...

This post isn't meant to be angry or anything. I've learned tons of stuff from everyone on this forum.

I personally think that a traditional style of LAG (or at least, what most people on this board think of as LAG) play would be a disaster at SSNL. However, I'm trying to advocate that by playing such a small selection of hands pre-flop, we're giving up an edge post flop. While this might be a slightly looser style than people currently advocate playing, I think it could be more profitable.

The idea that there are four styles of play...TAG, LAG, Loose-Weak, Tight-Weak, are overly simplistic and best left in the bad books they appear in.

Thinking loose aggressive styles do not work at small stakes. As stakes increase, thinking loose aggressive styles go up in profitability.

I just don't think there is only one style of play that can win at small stakes.

Well of course we can. That's how you win. At 10NL thru 50NL the way you outplay someone postflop is to make the best hand and get them to put money in the middle when they are drawing thin or drawing dead. You outplay them by getting more value from your made hands than they do with theirs. And by losing less than they do postflop with second best or worse hands.
