Re: VPIP < 20 ?
In the beginning most people cold call to many raises and thats why their VP$IP is so high. DO NOT COLD CALL A RAISE WITH A HAND LIKE AJ-X, KQ-Kx. I see lots of beginners making this kind of call and it gets you into all types of trouble.

Re: VPIP < 20 ?
yea 25% is to much, kjo and ato should be mucked unless super passive table or late position.

Re: VPIP < 20 ?
[ QUOTE ]
kjo and ato should be mucked unless super passive table [/ QUOTE ] Not to be a nitpicker but the big problem with these hands arises when they are up against dominating hands (i.e. AK), not when they are played for a raise (although raises and dominating hands are often highly correlated). Its small/suited cards, which rely on implied odds, that do poorly with a raise. With the best big cards (which KJ and AT will often be) a raise doesn't really harm your hand. So the point is against limpers, be wary at a passive table (especially a super passive table) where it is likely an opponent may have limped in with a hand that dominates your KJ or AT. But in an aggressive game, be much more inclined to come in against limpers (consider raising), as those aggressive players who chose to limp would have raised with a hand that dominates KJ or AT. |

Re: VPIP < 20 ?
Great post! I think I learned more from this one post alone than my last two weeks of lurking here.
So here's a followup question. How does suitedness play into this? It seems to be able to offset the domination aspect slightly? So for example, agaist a raise, SSHE suggests to muck AQo but cold call with AQs. I wasn't sure about this, because if you hit your ace, when do you do then? Hope your backdoor flush saves you? Hope that you hit a Q? Or am I fearing the monsters under the bed? How does this change with respect to passive/aggressive limpers? |

Re: VPIP < 20 ?
22% is perfectly fine in a 2/4 game. You're probably much tighter than most of your opponents, and because they are constantly calling preflop, hands that would otherwise be unprofitable become profitable. Don't sweat it.
Good luck. Eric |

Re: VPIP < 20 ?
Thanks for all the great replies everyone. If your VPIP is 15% what hands do you play? I guess I'm not playing as tight as I thought. I also think I play too many small pairs..

Re: VPIP < 20 ?
Small pairs like multiway pots to try and flop a set... so usually you end up playing them in LP when there are enough limpers. The exception is if you usually end up in family pots (like the live games here in Northern California!) then you can play them from any position.
