Settle for reasonable contentment. You'll be ahead of most of the globe, and that should be enough.

I forget who said it -- maybe Montaigne or Voltaire -- but anyway, I always liked and tried to take to heart his line, "Happiness, too, is inevitable." Even the most miserable can't avoid his occasional share.

But it's not meant to be a constant.

Ah, thanks. I love the line but for some reason always forget the author, even though I like the author too.

I only read The Fall, The Stranger, The Myth of Sissyphus and I think another essay or two a long time ago, but always wanted to read more of him.
