hand in my sac? (a concert trip report)
So Sunday night, I found myself amidst hundreds of teenybopper high school and college chicks at a Rob Thomas concert in Oakland.
A little background is necessary, I guess. the tickets were comped by the man himself. my ex-gf/current good friend is a dermatologist in NYC. She is also Rob Thomas' and his wife's derm, and became good friends with them. a month or so ago, she called me to ask me if I wanted to go to the oakland concert. always ready to recieve free [censored], I accepted, so my wife and I found two free tickets waiting for us at will call. the opening act was a semi famous (I guess, I'm a sports talk radio kind of guy) chick rock act. Anna Nalick. She was actually pretty good (I guess it worked out that I couldn't understand the words and just listened to the music. pretty good performer, as well, as she established great rapport with the crowd. smokin body, also. Rob Thomas then came on and played a 1.5 hour set that was actually pretty enjoyable. only downers were the hundreds of teeny boppers that wouldn't sit down, forcing us to either stand or stare at their asses in front of us. not all bad, but there's good and bad in every crowd. Second downer was that Carlos Santana couldn't make it, so he played a carlos-less smooth. not bad, but you can't make up for a loss like that. I was secretly holding out for a carlos/pete escobedo impromptu jam session (being that we were in oakland) but it was not to be. |
