Default tunica update?

Does anyone have info regarding the Tunica casinos? Were they damaged at all? Are they still full of refugees? I'll be there in three weeks will my rooms still be reserved?

I haven't been down there so could be wrong.
But I would be REALLY surprised if the Tunica casinos took any damage. We had some bad thunderstorms up here...but nothing terribly severe.

I imagine they are still pretty well jammed with evacuees...but if you made reservations3 weeks in advance i can't imagine they would somehow no longer be good.
of course, you could always call to check.

There are no reports of damage in Tunica. Yes, there are refugees all over the place. There are refugees from Memphis to Tulsa to Fayetteville to Texarkana.

You watch this stuff on TV, then you drive past a Holiday Inn that's 10 hours from NOLA and you notice half the lot is filled with cars with Louisiana tags.

If you're planning on going, call first to see about your room.

I'm actually headed there tomorrow. I called the Horseshoe out of similar worries. My reservation was still there; however, the poker room rate reservation lady did say it was crowded there.

Surprised they said it was crowded... I was there (goldstrike mainly) thursday and friday morning/afternoon and it was dead.

As to the OP, there was no damage to the casinos and some (but not that many) refugees from NO, et al

I talked to some people that just came back. The Grand Casino is trying to take as many homeless as they can. Other Casino's are starting doing the same.

if this is true then good for them.

probably a good PR move for places like the Grand who also have the gulf-coast casinos of course (including Harrah's New Orleans).

Still.....if they really are doing this it's a pretty classy move. I usually tend to think of casinos as super-greedy corporate f'kers but this would change my perception somewhat dramatically.

Also read somewhere that the Grand in Biloxi I think is paying their employees for the next 90 days or something. It might be full-timers only or something like that...but still an equally classy move.
They'll be able to come out on the other side of this and brag about how much they care about the community and how wonderful they are...but it's still a pretty class move.

Yes yes...I know there's an additional incentive about doing this for the Grand....but they still don't HAVE to do this.

A lot of the out-of-work dealers would come back to the Grand BEGGING to have their job back even if the Grand left them totally out in the cold.

Besides, I think that the aspect of "those who couldn't get jobs anywhere else" is already kind of true for many dealers already.

To be able to get a basic, starting blackjack dealer job there are a few criteria to meet:
1. Be able to count to 21
2. Be able to show up to work on time
3. be able to show up to work mostly sober a solid majority of the time
4. Pass the drug-screen test (and is there a criminal-background check too?? I forget)

That's really about it.
Incredibly, there are a LOT of people out there who fail to meet these rather basic criteria....but overall I don't think that getting a dealing job is THAT hard.

I do think that becoming a skilled and proficient poker-dealer (or craps dealer) is not nearly as easy of course (before you get on my case for understating the true talent of dealers or something like that).

I was kind of thinking of salaried employees. The dealers might have to find a different job anyway because their minimum wage won't go too far.
