Default The Cardinals are a World Series lock!

As reported by the Associated Press the Cardinals made a blockbuster trade. They filled gaping holes in the outfield and second base giving up only journeyman reliever Ray King. Hurry and place your World Series bets before the bookies adjust their lines!

DALLAS (AP) — Left-hander Ray King was traded from St. Louis to Colorado on Wednesday night for outfielder Larry Bigbie and infielder Aaron Miles.
King was 4-4 with a 3.38 ERA in 77 relief appearances for the Cardinals, but didn’t make an appearance in either of the team’s playoffs series this year.
“We’re very excited to add a left-handed pitcher of Ray’s caliber to our bullpen,” Rockies general manager Dan O’Dowd said. “He brings a veteran presence to the later innings of a game, and his track record speaks for itself.”
In 447 career games for the Chicago Cubs, Milwaukee, Atlanta and St. Louis, King is 18-18 with a 3.12 ERA. In 12 career appearances at Coors Field, opposing hitters have gone just 4-for-27 (.148) against him and he has allowed one run in 8 1-3 innings. He turns 32 next month.
Bigbie was traded from Baltimore to Colorado for outfielder Eric Byrnes on July 29. He hit a combined .239 with five homers and 23 RBIs for the Rockies and Orioles.
Miles, who started 69 games at second base for the Rockies, batted .281 with two home runs and 28 RBIs in 99 games last season.

The OP was sarcasm. These are huge downgrades. They announce this trade the same day they announce they won't retain Grudz and Reggie. The Cardinals website says these are starting caliber replacements at second base and outfield. That is a joke unless we want to compete with the Pirates and Reds for last place!

They were supposed to be loading up for the initial season at the new stadium. Walt has really taken a vacation this offseason. He supposedly had interest in Brian Giles but wanted his primary concern to be AJ. We still have primary needs at second base, relief pitching and two outfielders.
I agree in the decisions not to sign AJ and Giles. Those contracts were too expensive for those players. AJ is injured too often and Giles is on the downside of a good career.

I think Walt has let too many middle of the road free agents get away and lost out on many potential trades. Some players that have slipped away include Brad Wilkerson, Juan Pierre, Sean Casey, Jim Thome, Alfonso Soriano, etc. Although the first basemen may not make sense as Pujols may not be able to move back to the outfield with his bad legs.

A link to a good Cardinals forum is HERE!

Thank you,

Jim Kuhn

Aaron Miles should be decent at least, but to tell you the truth, you're gonna be finishing behind the Brewers this year.

when luis gonzalez (whooooooooo?) starts over you at second base, in coors, I think you're pretty not good.
