ET literally buried the 2600 -

big marketing push for a Christmas game that was absolute crap - rumor was in the end Atari had to BURY a bunch of these games in the desert.

It has been accused of singlehandedly bringing down Atari - it WAS a stupid game but easy to beat if you had time...

Not just a rumor.

Pressure Cooker baby. That song between levels was the best.

Honorable mention to Keystone Kapers; apparently the guy's who you were always chasing was named Harry Hooligan.

ADVENTURE was the sweetest game ever. those dragons/ducks were fierce. you can play it online flashsomewhere if you search for it.

i also was a fan of the acrobats game that you played with the pong wheel? my guess is it was called acrobats, or circus.

combat was solid, along with the other war games like the one that involved planes and whatnot.

but the graphics of pitfall were too impressive. it was like those crocodiles were in my living room.

River Raid was the nuts.

Of course there is.

Back to the OP, check out Turmoil and Solaris if you like shooters.

Some of the "new school" games like Oysteron, Thrust and Space Instigators are really good too.

"Adventure" was great.

Online you can find Indenture which emulates the original levels and adds some with over 300 rooms for those that just can't get enough of being square
