Options. Learn about them especially Uncovered Put writing. Options have expirations that range from a month to a year. The longest you'd have to wait to profit is a month, but if the stock moves enough you can profit even faster. I make a steady living doing this. I like playing strangles on google (learn about straddles and strangles as well).

yeah, i also think those swing trader books are what you want.

6-7 days i'd consider short-term although obviously not day-trading...

i think you want to play oil when it's hot, bio-tech when it's hot etc, and those are probably 6 month cycles at minimum (gosh, oil could be 20 year cycle).

Writing naked puts is not a beginners game. But done right, could provide nice short term profits on a consistant basis.

For a 5-to-10 day holding period, you want THE MASTER SWING TRADER, a book by Alan Farley. It's got exactly what you are looking for.

This book details many interesting setups for that short-term holding period. I am NOT a big fan of short holding periods because high frequency trading leads to high transactions costs.

If you are serious about starting, you might consider protecting yourself by limiting your trades initially to

- long stock only
- no margin and
- only stocks over $10 trading at least 200K shares a day.

The basic premise here is that if you cannot master unleveraged long stock in the leading issues, you really cannot master the more complex trading opportunities that are available. Certainly the opportunities trading unleveraged long stock are quite plentiful if you are patient and have a solid methodology. Once you are consistently successful for at least a year trading unleveraged long stock you can move to to shorting, margin leverage etc.

You might also read everything you can on Position Sizing

Alan Farley is a master and he has a very nice, easy-to-follow writing style.
