Default Re: 5/10: Fold top set?

[ QUOTE ]
This might be REALLY flawed thinking so someone let me know...

On the turn I'm A. Not really afraid of villain having a 7 and B. Not willing to play a large pot either.

If I have an overpair to the board, or if I have two pair I'll probably bet here. Then if I'm pushed back at I'll fold.

With a set, I like checking here because it allows me to fill up if he's trying to be tricky, and I have a good chance of stacking him. I can also soak up a bet on the river which is (in my opinion) much more likely to be a bluff than a turn check raise is (since you've shown you're "scared" of the turn).

I will also quite often check a 7 in the spot getting ready to make most of the money on the river because people usually don't like calling bets on the turn with a board that scary because they know, 80% of the time it's two bets they're calling, not one. As opposed to the river where they'll call quite often knowing it's only one bet, and some people just need to see your hand once you've gotten than far.

Also, if the river is a dud and it's checked to me, I absolutely bet for value.

I woulda said this last night but I was too drunk. This is pretty much why checking the turn is best. But of course, since we all run bad, river will be the J of spades and villan will pot it.

What? You win two cents off me and all of a sudden you can just go and shoot me down without any clarification?

WRONG YOU ARE, ROBBIO.

no, dont get me wrong, I like checking this turn someimtes, it's just the 6 isn't horrible, it's tough putting villain on a straight unless he flopped it. It's much more likely for someone to draw w/ a J then a 7, (or peel with a Q) so representing the idiot straight is tough.

Had it been a Q or a J for a 4straight or whatnot, where I suspect there's a much higher% of me being behind, I want a freecard w/ so many outs. (But w/ the nuts or a bluff or fewer outs that has showdown, I'd probably bet)
