Bellagio 8-16

I'm headed out to Vegas in a couple of weeks, and wanted some folks opinion on the Bellagio 8-16 game. I'm thinking of moving up, but still a little hesitant (I think unreasonably) to do so. I've done well at PP 2-4, 3-6 and live at 4-8 and some at 6-12. So my question is, in general, are the Bellagio 8-16 games over a typical weekend typically soft, or difficult?

If you can beat party poker 3/6, you will have no problem beating live games below 10/20. Many live games in the 15/30 range are easier to beat than 3/6 party.

If you see 3 or more people on average limping, you shouldnt have a problem.

What chips do they play this with? I always wonder that when I see oddball limits like this. Why can't they play 10-20 with redbirds like normal people? [img]/images/graemlins/tongue.gif[/img]

In general is there much difference between Bellagio 8/16 and Mirage 6/12?

They play it with $5 and $1 chips so it's kind of annoying.

Usually, LA clubs use $2 chips.

Yeah, the Mirage game doesn't have as much action as the 8-16. At least from what I've noticed on my many trips out there.

Interesting concept, but I don't advise trying it out with a short bankroll. I just love hearing about 3/6 players who jump right into 15/30 games. I don't know about you, but when I moved up I learned lots of valuable (and costly) lessions in the first few sessions. But hey, maybe I was slow. I guess some of you guys really have it figured out.

Seriously, see if you can beat the 6/12 at the Mirage before taking a shot at the 8/16 in Bellagio. The 8/16 is really just a 10/20 game played with small chips, so your potential for bankroll ruin is very real in that game. Play tight/aggressive with the tourists in the Mirage 6/12 and see if you can walk away with a couple of good wins. If you do, then give the 8/16 a shot, but have at least 1K in your pocket that you are willing to play with. I've played 8/16 games that are like 2/4 games on steroids, so don't think they are always an easy mark. You have to play well and survive the big swings that loose aggressive games will bring you. Trust me, the swings can be very large.

Oh by the way, if any 3/6 players want to take a shot at 15/30 because it's such an easy limit, I'll be at the Bellagio all next week in their 15/30 game. We will welcome you with open arms.

Harley, thanks for the advice. Much appreciated. I hope this doesn't come across as sarcastic (as posts sometimes do), because I don't intend it to be. But my bankroll is just fine, and can easily afford the $8-$16 game. I'll sit the $6-$12 game, and probably jump into the Bellagio game near the end of my trip.

I play lower on-line for a variety of reasons. But mainly, I don't need the money, and it is good practice for low risk.

10-20 games suck compared to 8-16 using $2 chips or 9-18 using $3 chips. California has proven this many times over. The visual of the extra chips in the pots creates tons more loose action. While the 2chip-4chip 10-20 games get filled with nits and tight asses. Finding a 10-20 game with avg pots over $150 becomes nearly impossible while the 8-16 games will often avg well over 200.
