Default Live MTT and Tipping ???

My buddy won the Monday AM tourney at Borgota for 3K. He left a 300.00 tip. In my mind that was a bit too much.

What is a standard tip for a tourney of that size? I am looking to play in an upcoming Friday Foxwoods tourney and would like to have a reasonable idea of what a fair tip would be if I should be after I win .

10% seemed excessive. The tourny lasted about 5 hours, a reasonable amount to tip for a 3,000 win would be about 150 bucks or 30.00 per hour.

Thoughts ??

First thought is you might get better responses in the B&M forum.

Very little live experience (excpet for a few trips to Turning Stone) but even tipping 150 for 5 houors seems excessive.. At a cash game if you ahd the same dealer for 5 hours and tipped 1 or 2 dollars per pot won.. that's only like 50.. i don't see why they should get more for a tournament..

Good point. I was thinking 5% over all but 30.00/hour isn't crazy either. They deal 30-40 hands per hour so that isn't too bad is it?

I think Greg (Fossilman) had a thread about tipping but I can't find it. Anyone have a link?

I tip 1% of profit and from what I can gather it isnt out of line. If I wasn't making a living as a pro, maybe I would tip more.

The standard answer is to ask the TD how many half-hours downs (dealer-shifts) there's been during the tournament. He/she should be able to provide that info on the spot.

Then it's just a matter of determining how much you think dealers should have per down, and how to split the burden with #2 and eventually #3 in a fair and just way.

I make a point of tipping the dealers even if I dont finish in a top spot (at least when I make the FT). My personal rule of thumb is 4% of the price money, round down or up depending on the quality of the dealers.

Best,

McMelchior (Johan)

Typically something in the range of 3-5% is standard.

I gave the dealers $100 when I chopped 1st/2nd for $2600 each ($2500 profit) in a live tourney once. The guy I chopped with made me feel cheap when he gave them $150. Oh well, I'll be the cheap bastard and keep my $50. I thought $100 was pretty good.

My first live casino MTT I cashed in, the guy I chopped it with HU was a regular and he gave 7%. I didn't feel like I could give less, so I gave the same.

It was a small field small buyin event, 22 runners $40 entry we each got $310 or so and both gave $20.

In a live STT, my friend who took first for 350-(50+10)=290 tipped 30 bucks for a 2.5 hour affair. I took second for a net of 90 bucks and felt inclined to tip half what he tipped. I think I overtipped IMHO.
