Default Why SD/100?

Why do we look at standard deviation per 100 hands? IS there a purpose for this number? Why not look per hand? or per 1k hands?

what is the point of the number? is it to predict future variance? Is it to narrow down winrates?

The predictive power can be powerful and have impactful real life applications for people making decisions about devoting time/effort to playing, career choices, etc... sO i want to understand a bit better why /100 is the norm?

We look at SD/100 because we look at winrate in BB/100, and it is useful to have the same normalization for both. We look at BB/100 because that normalization gives the results a nice magnitude, and because 100 hands is the closest power of 10 to the number of hands most people play in an hour.

i agree... 100 hands is reasonably close to an hour whereas 1000 hands is more like 20 hours...

and BB/1 hand win rate would be .015 and SD would 0.12 and it would get confusing..

i always thought win rate should be 2BB/hour. but then B&M can get really slowly, although often fairly juicy too.
