Re: How much do casino poker dealers make?
That is correct. With all the new low limit players in the games, most of them don't tips because "on the internet..." and they are just cheap or dont know any better. The average base pay is around minimum wage or just above that. So tips are dealers livelyhood. The best dealers that are SOLID and quick/efficient in Vegas can make around 60k. Dont go expecting 90k+. Seems that the average is around mid 40's to maybe 50k. But you have to account for cost of living. You wont afford a house on that income out here. Apartments are climbing to the 1000-1200 range for 2br in nice areas. Sometimes higher.

Depends whether or not you want to do the "corporate" thing. Lots of people don't like that atmosphere including me. It's either a slave to that or to something you like. With the explosion of poker now, I don't see how you could go wrong. I would try it for a while and see what you think. It's actually good world experience, better than sitting in a cubicle at your PC. And yes, that is what your job would be like in the corporate world.

Re: How much do casino poker dealers make?
If you have a business degree and can make a ran at casino/card room mgt, then go for it. You are only young once. Get crazy, make some bad choices, and most importantly - enjoy yourself.
Dealing for a year and then deciding you hate it and getting a real job is not a failure. It is a learning experience and makes for good stories when you get old. |

For a player, a bonus from this would be the opportunity to get lots of experience in reading tells and putting players on hands. This should help your game quite a bit and count as a big job perk.

Re: How much do casino poker dealers make?
I got a kick out of some of the responses to your question:
Dealing is hell...not respectable...don't waste your time, etc. Look, dealing is a J-O-B just like any other. Sitting a cubicle, rotting away while you push the same old paper every day, doesn't seem too respectable or heavenly to me (was there myself for 10 years...ugh). Is dealing brain surgery? No. Will you find the cure for cancer while dealing? No. Will you make decent money for what you do? Probably. $95K is a stretch... And I actually ENJOY dealing...most of my buddies absolutely hate their J-O-B's. I figure I'm ahead in the happiness catregaory. I know it's hard for perpetually stuck poker players to believe this. I don't really care what they think. Maybe dealing will grow old in time. In fact I'm sure it will. We'll see. If you are looking for a job while finding your way after college, I think dealing is a great way to go. If you are looking for a job that will impress people and make your father in law proud, it's not the way to go. I personally think that people who do things to impress other people are fools anyway. |

Re: How much do casino poker dealers make?
To clear up the whole 95k a year thing... I talked to the guy again and he said that he makes that much bc he is sometimes called to deal at the higher limits 50-100 and above. He also suppliments his income with poker winnings (with which i imagine he is adding to his dealer pay to come up with 95k/yr)

Re: How much do casino poker dealers make?
Thanks for all the information guys. The thought of becoming a dealer was just something spontaneous that happend this morning. I still have 2 more years of college before I decide what i want to do. Thanks to those of you who were looking out for my well being also
Is it hard to become a dealer? I'll be 21 when i graduate from college and will look like an 18 year old. Is this going to be a problem? |
