Re: How much do casino poker dealers make?
Alright, so now you have me sold on having fun for a year at least out of college (im graduating duke in about 2 months)and dealing some cards. Now, how do I get one of these dealer jobs? I have to go to school or something for this right? Does anyone know of any websites to find out about casino jobs?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: please
IANAT (I am not a teacher), but:
Seems to me your six hours a day estimate very neatly glosses over lesson planning, material preparation, grading, and the million other things that a teacher does other than draw on a blackboard. |

Re: please
Many of my relatives are teachers and I can assure you they put in much more than 6 hours a day. Well all except for my aunt who teachers in a juvenile detention facility. She has a really sweet gig (no problems with behavior etc).

[ QUOTE ]
But are you watching players during a hand trying to get a read? Or are you more focused on the action, cutting the pot, collecting dead cards? [/ QUOTE ] I believe a person of average alertness and intelligence can track the action, cut the pot, collect dead cards AND breathe AND think about certain players tendencies and tells at the same time. What job related duties does the dealer have to tend to while the CO is fiddling with his chips for 15 seconds before acting? (BTW, I believe that a few well known poker pros have started out this way.) |

Re: please
Yeah, and dealers NEVER have problems with behavior issues. After all, we're all adults.

[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] high school teacher, all of whom work more hours for less pay. [/ QUOTE ] More or less pay depends on location. Teachers work about the same number of hours as dealers; about 6 hours a day. Teachers are on a regular schedule and have summers off. I'm not saying there aren't some great teachers who work really hard, there are. The ones that do the minimum, however, don't really do that much work. [/ QUOTE ] Try telling my mother that school teachers work 6 hours a day. You won't get a plate of her lasagna ... unless she dumps it on your head while she's kicking your a** out the door. And even the teachers who 'do the minimum', as you put it, still are at school from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, teaching classrooms of anywhere from 15-35 kids and having no more than 1 - MAYBE 2 - class hours during the day where they can MAYBE grade some papers or exams. In reality, the majority of teachers - even the ones doing the minimum - still work their normal 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. shift and have about 2 more hours of work to do at home. And don't even get me started about the 'mandadory volunteering' part of their jobs (chaperone at dances, security at games, etc.) |

What kind of teacher puts in 6 hours a day? I put in 50-60 hours a week. I can't remember the last time I had a free weekend. |
