JJ from the button, 5-10
Online 5-10 game. We're playing in the aftermath of a very great game, featuring a 70/45/10 player who didn't play well besides his statistics. But he's gone now.
Folded to me on the button, and I open raise with J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] SB folds, and the BB a 13/4/.88 calls. Flop 9 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]3 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] He Bets! I raise, and we go to the turn. 4 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. He Bets again!. What's that mean, and how do I play now? In general, what does a double donkbet mean from what seems to be a rational player? |

Re: JJ from the button, 5-10
From a seemingly rational player, he's trying to bet/3-bet you or keep you from cheap showdowning with ace high or it could be an outright bluff. Call down; you're ahead often enough to do this, but not enough to raise.

Re: JJ from the button, 5-10
He probably puts you on a wide range of hands since you open raised from the button. Although his stats are ultra passive, I think you are acutally ahead a decent amount of times. Villian often has a hand like a pocket pair. The pot isn't that big, but the villian's hand range, IMO, is large enough that you ahead enough to make calling down EV+. Raise/Fold loses a bet from a bluff and loses you a bet when you are beat.

he's trying to bet/3-bet you [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, that's what I was worried about. Against opponents sophisticated enough to recognize a donkbet for what it frequently is, I sometimes use it so that I can get three bets in on the turn, and I was wondering if that was a common enough play that my opponent here might be using it. |
