Default Get me a new credit card...

I need a credit card, I'm currently a student and will be hopefully for the next 4 years, I have no idea what I do/don't want. Some type of rewards thing would be nice, but really whatever the "best" is, if there is such a thing. I'm good with money, as in, bill will be paid on time every month. Ideas? I am clueless when it comes to this, let me know if you need any other info.

Thanks oot.

Head over to fatwallet.com, they have numerous lengthy threads debating the minutiae of various cards and their benefits.

If I remember correctly, the Citi Diamond Preferred (Dividend Select, maybe?) has pretty broad appeal as the best.

If this is your first card, it probably doesn't really matter. The bonus programs are usually only good for people who charge big bucks (thousands a month) and are reimbursed by their employers.

Shop around for a low/zero annual fee since you plan on not carrying a balance. Usually the hot chicks from the CC companies on campus will give you free candy if you fill out an application.

Getting rejected on an application is not good for your credit score. I'd pick a company that's looking for students.

Make sure you pay off the balance every month. It's easy to be tempted to book a spring break trip and not be able to swing the month payments on a student's budget. I made this mistake and it really messes up car loans, job applications, etc. after graduation.

Amex Blue, or go with the Charge card (green) if you need to keep yourself in line by having to pay in full every month.

I wouldn't say "a lot," but it is an occasional problem. For example, neither of the stores at which I buy my kegs takes AMEX, but those are the only places I frequent even somewhat often that don't. Annoying.

It's only been a problem for me at some nightclubs. It's true that Amex cuts 4% of the top vs. I think 2.5% for Visa/MC.

Amex might be a good fit since you don't want to carry balances.
