haha, maybe i am for saying that. im just confused now. i was chalking it up to their straight ability (which i believe has to be it), but i cant explain why.
i think it is because when they do make a straight it is the nuts. (or more likely to be the nuts) im pretty sure you have to be wrong somehow. |

Never question the Master, eh?
I'm just trying to point out that everyone makes mistakes. It's a simple fact of life. |

No, you are not. It's a natural reaction to a midget like me claiming that a giant like David has made a mistake. In 99.99% of the cases, the midget is wrong.

i think it is because when they do make a straight it is the nuts. (or more likely to be the nuts) [/ QUOTE ] They can all make exactly the same straights, and the same number of straights. So 52s not being in group 8 (and specifically not being higher in group 8 than 42s) is a conceptual error put in print. |

Except for the little fact that the larger gap makes the odds of getting a straight significantly less.

Except for the little fact that the larger gap makes the odds of getting a straight significantly less. [/ QUOTE ] Show me how 52s makes more straights (using both cards of course). Not saying yorue wrong, because that is what I initially thought was the answer before, I havent figure it out though. |

Except for the little fact that the larger gap makes the odds of getting a straight significantly less. [/ QUOTE ] 32s makes straights with the following boardcards: A45 456 42s makes straights with the following boardcards: A35 356 52s makes straights with the following boardcards: A34 346 Your statement is false as we are up against the end of the card range here. No one is disputing that 78s makes more straights than 79s. But when we are walled off at one end of the straights the gaps cease to make a difference. |

What some might not realize (David, I know you are not one of these "some") is that horrendous advice is printed in magazines, posted on RGP, and written into books each and every day when it comes to poker.
We have a country of mathematical illiterates and with poker having so much math involved, many of these people are now in the position of trying to "fudge" the math -- and, picking a random percentage out of the air, 90% of the people who see this pseudo-math don't know the difference. You do. I do. Many 2+2'ers do. Most non-2+2'ers don't. It's a sad world we live in -- sadder still when "experts" are anything but and pass off their "knowledge" to unexpecting masses who are far less able to separate wheat from chaff as you and Mason have trained 2+2'ers to be.
