I dont know anything at all about these raids, but I am a ploice officer so let me clear up one thing.

It is absolutely NOT illegal to not carry ID. It is also NOT illegal to refuse to identify yourself to a police officer.

Now, if you dont carry ID or you refuse to identify yourself when asked to by a police officer, you are going to be put thru all sorts of hassles and you will wish that you had ID on you.

They can and will detain you if they have probable cause to believe you are involved in any sort of suspicious activity. Obviously being present in an illegal gambling establishent would be considered suspicious.

They DO have the right to determine who you are if you cant prove it or wont tell them, which means you will be handcuffed and taken to wherever their AFIS (automated fingerprinting computer that is hooked up to the FBI) unit is.

After you are fingerprinted, if you arent wanted for something, they will most likely release you. But in this case, they might be pissed off enough that they had to go thru all this that they might arrest you for illegal gambling.

Even if you are released (and they arent required to take you back to where you were), it will take quite a while.

You might want to make sure you have ID with you.

Also, there is no law that says they can hold you for 24 hours just because they feel like it. They COULD do it, but they would be violating your civil rights.

Carry ID and dont piss off the police and you'll be fine.

I don't know how many of you guys have played in these clubs before, i just quit dealing at one a few months ago. My question is this - what will/can the police do with all the records 72nd kept? The sign up sheet has SS# on it - anyone know what they did with all that information? I only played there 3 times (way too uptown for me) but i've heard things like how records of illegal gambling can come back and haunt you blah blah blah.

And why only these 2 clubs? 14th is pretty well run and quiet, 72nd is a little heavy on the emails. Guess they didn't have a connection to the police after all...

aqu. and a.p. it is

Supposedly 72nd street got rid of their player records after the last round of busts.

I don't think you need to worry. If the people playing their didn't get in trouble I don't see them tracking down people who werent even there. Also, I'm not sure that them having your info on file proves anything. It's not illegal to be a member of a club. "How was I supposed to know that when I wasn't there gambling was going on??"

I had $650 on the table which I don't have now. In the bigger NL game one guy had at least $4500.

This article is much better the the NYPOST article...I was surprised after their BREAKING NEWS STORY from a month ago they only gave it a column in the back....where was the big breasted aussie chick when we actually needed her.

Sounds like the "grey area" may be tested if its pursued further regarding paying time to hang out and play cards...

"And some members and an employee of the two raided poker casinos in Manhattan made just that case, saying members paid to rent space by the half-hour - $5 at Playstation and $4 at New York Players Clubs."

There was a comment in the article made about it being compared to a pool hall...If i go to a pool hall and they charge me $10 a game and im wagering $1000 dollars a game amongst 10 people the establisment im in can be arrested?

I believe the grey area could be pre-paid monthly memberships or something similar. Can any of this forums many legal eagles respond?
