I guarantee anyone would like this album. Who cares that the names are eccentric. Oh, obviously someone who has no clue.

I have heard of all of these, I personally just don't care for that most of them. I was just saying where you live plays a role. Nothing I listen too is played on the radio where I live.

[/ QUOTE ]

most, if not all, of these aren't played on the radio anywhere (with the exception of college radio, which is hit-or-miss). radio is pretty terrible across the board these days in terms of new quality music.

in response to the mention about them not being widely popular, i thought the point was the best albums in terms of quality, popularity be damned.

This is basically an "i'm trying to prove I am very edgy and you aren't..." thread.

"It is the same in any art form. Those who are recognized as the greatest in their field are those who were most popular in their field."

This is, in all art forms, subject to the judgement of time.

"Those who are recognized as the greatest in their field are those who were most popular in their field."

LOL

is this your cute little indie way of slinking away from an argument you're obviously wrong in, but still trying to save face by acting as though what I say is laughable?

I'm pretty sure that Sufjan made such ridiculous song names to irk people who would judge him solely based on his song titles.

So far no one here has listed an "edgy" band. They play this [censored] on nissan comercials and [censored] over nip and tuck!

No, its my way of saying that, for example, shakespeare went so unnoticed in his own lifetime that we know almost nothing about him.

Also, "Those who are recognized as the greatest in their field are those who were most popular in their field."

Really?

You think the film that is recognized as the best is also the most popular?

There's so much Audioslave hatin' going on in here. Cornell rules. Out of Exile should definitely be a nominee, along with Metric-Live It Out, Broken Social Scene, The Mars Volta-Frances The Mute and NIN-With Teeth. My favorite album of the year though is The Secret Migration by Mercury Rev. Im not sure of it's rockness, but still.

I played right into his trap!

although I don't judge him solely on his song titles; I also judge him by his Scout uniform

what a unique look!

given that its the only objective way to judge something like this you have to take it into account. What makes the albums you listed good, and why should I believe that they are better than what the masses like?

[/ QUOTE ]

Attempting to objectify (is that a word?) appreciation of art through a direct correlation with popularity is comically retarded.

[/ QUOTE ]

you made a list of the 10 best rock albums of 2005 without including a single band that is widely popular. if this was CMI's 10 favorite albums of 2005 that would make sense, but its not. Note the 5 artists/bands you listed as the greatest of all time. What did they all have in common? the fact that they were all widely popular. It is the same in any art form. Those who are recognized as the greatest in their field are those who were most popular in their field. I agree that their is room for listing artists that are not so popular among the best, but to have a top 10 list not include any popular artist at all is as you would say "comically retarded".

[/ QUOTE ]

Wrong, what about movies? Taking away Titanic, when was the last high gross movie nominated for an Oscar for best picture? Should I call the Academy idiotic for not nominating [censored] Charlies Angels or Men in Black?
