[ QUOTE ] Quick, name me good Bears Payton-led teams other than the '85 team. [/ QUOTE ] 1975-finished 3rd in Conference 1976-2nd 1977-2nd 1978-3rd 1979-2nd 1980-3rd 1981-5th 1982-11th 1983-2nd 1984-1st 1985-1st 1986-1st 1987-1st Walter Payton played from 1975-1987, nearly everyone one of those teams looks pretty good. [/ QUOTE ] Either your stats are way off or you have a different definition of "Conference" than I do. 1975 4-10 1976 7-7 1977 9-5, lost first round 1978 7-9 1979 10-6 lost wild card game 1980 7-9 1981 6-10 1982 3-6 1983 8-8 1984 10-6, lost in NFC title game 23-0 1985 15-1, super bowl 1986 14-2, lost their fisrt playoff game 1987 11-4, lost their fisrt playoff game The '85 era teams were good, but won a total of one playoff game not held in the '85 season. Good? Maybe...kinda like the Dolphins of recent years I guess. |

I chose Walter Payton. He would be a back I would build a team around. He did everything on the field.
For one game I would pick Jim Brown. Only reason he is not the #1 choice is becuase even he admits he didn't do things like block in the backfield. Walter Payton was one of the best blockers in the backfield. Barry Sanders I would pick for one play =) He was great in his own way. |

Barry Sanders is the wrong answer. By a large margin. This only shows the forum's youth.

I've always looked at it this way:
One game: Jim Brown One season: Gayle Sayers One career: Walter Payton Not having Gayle Sayers as a choice is borderline criminal. HAVE YOU NOT SEEN BRIAN'S SONG? |
