Re: best film EVER...
You must see Polanski's Macbeth. Best damn afternoon I ever had at school was watching this!
And of a foreign film vein, do I hear any support for the Wages of Fear? |

Re: best film EVER...
I liked that one too.
I also think Yojimbo should be up there. I hear Ikiru should, too, but I've never seen it, so I can't venture an opinion. |

Re: best film EVER...
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] though very, very long film? [/ QUOTE ] Its really hard to give a film "great" status when it would be much better if the last half hour was literally chopped off the end of the film [/ QUOTE ] I always really disagreed with this in regards to the LOTR movies. The ending did drag on quite a bit, but I felt like that did much more good than bad. With a story that great and long, it's easy for a fan to really get attached to the story and characters. It warrants a long send off, as fans just don't want to let go. I didn't really get that attached to LOTR, but there's nothing worse than a really long and great video game or series of books that ends abruptly and gives you no insight into the "ever after." Of course you have to stop at some point, and they may have crossed the acceptable point ROTK's ending, but with a timeless story like LOTR that will never have a sequel (or an equal probably), I think it's best for the ending to err on the side lengthiness. [/ QUOTE ] Are you talking about the end of Part I, or the end of the whole trilogy (i.e. the end of ROTK)? Because I thought the earlier poster was talking about the end of Part I. Anyway, I can't remember: which film had Frodo and Bilbo and maybe a few other fools get on some fake-looking boat going who-knows-or-cares? 'Cuz that sucked. -ptmusic |

Re: best film EVER...
I missed "Wages of Fear" last summer, but it reminded me of "The Earrings of Madame De..." and the "Leopard" for some reason.
And amongst the Japanese the "Seven Samurai" continues to be my favourite. It is a movie 3.5 hours long that does not feel like that at all. |

I can't believe i'm the only one that voted for Once upon a time in the West and how many votes Godfather is getting.

Re: best film EVER...
I assumed he was talking about ROTK. I thought the big riverside battle scene took place in the last half hour of Fellowship? If he thinks the film would have been better off without that, then I wasted time responding to him. I don't think there is or should be a debate about the length of the first two movies. The last one is far more questionable.

Re: best film EVER...
I can believe it pretty easily.
And The Godfather is a great film. I'm surprised that the OOTiots haven't screwed up and picked something worse. For instance, if Scarface were up there, I wouldn't be surprised if it outranked The Godfather, and Scarface is a piece of crap in comparison. |
