Re: Jesus Scoops a Huge Pot
[ QUOTE ]
This is a call I probably can't make with that King on board. Obviously no one knows for sure, but do you think Jesus, being the pro he is, mainly picked up on a physical tell, or one just from the villains betting pattern? [/ QUOTE ] Villain had a telling betting pattern here. It all boils down to a math problem. |

Re: Jesus Scoops a Huge Pot
[ QUOTE ]
Chris "Jesus" Ferguson just scooped up a large pot. After seeing a flop of 3-2-2, the player in the big blind checked. Ferguson made it $800 to go, and the player in the big blind re-raised to $3,800. A King came on the turn and the player in the big blind raised to all in, about $7,800. Ferguson called and showed pocket Queens and the player in the player in the big blind turned over A-J. The river was an 8 and Ferguson's Queens held up. "Jesus" is now sitting on about $31,000. ---------- This is a call I probably can't make with that King on board. Obviously no one knows for sure, but do you think Jesus, being the pro he is, mainly picked up on a physical tell, or one just from the villains betting pattern? [/ QUOTE ] Ferguson's opponent showed strength on the flop. There's no reason to believe the turn card hit his hand. So, I would think Ferguson thought if he was ahead on the flop, he was still ahead on the turn. |

[/ QUOTE ] Right, and the likelyhood of Ferguson being ahead in the raised pot is more likely than being behind. AK/KJ is a possibility, less likely with Kx, and KQ is an even less likely possibility (given that Chris holds two queens already), but JJ-44 can pull moves like this, as well as ragged aces and ragged draws. |

Johnny Chan GONE
Date / Time: 2005-07-07 21:09:00
Title: Johnny Chan - Gone-y Chan Log: Johnny Chan was eliminated when his A-J went up against David Solomon's pocket 8's. An ace flopped, but Soloman held the 8 of clubs. When four clubs hit the board, Solomon's flush, was good enough to send 10 time bracelet winner, Johnny Chan, home on Day 1 of three day 1's. |

I see 8 7 UTG and limp, Thoughts? [/ QUOTE ] if you're feeling FPS'y raise this. otherwise fold. at that stack depth, baby SC's are in general losing propositions. at that stack depth, you must play tourney poker, not real poker. fim |

Re: Jesus Scoops a Huge Pot
What was the betting pattern and what was the preflop action?
I have been waiting for a discussion of this hand as I think that I could learn a lot from it. To me, it seemed that I was missing information in order to make the hand make sense (be it from the hand or general poker knowledge or both). Thanks in advance. |

Re: WSOP Day 1A: \"Official\" Results, News & Discussion
Barry Greenstein, Eskimo Clark, and Johnny Chan are all eliminated.
Barry Greenstein has been eliminated from the main event when his all-in with Qd-9d is called by Michael Cribb's pocket Kings. Always a good sport, Barry gave the young fellow a copy of his book as a bounty. Eskimo Clark just took a huge hit to his stack. With the board showing As-5s-9d-7c, Clark's opponent moves all in for $16,175 and Clark calls. His opponent shows A-Q, and Clark flips up A-J. The turn and river are bricks, and Eskimo Clarks stack gets kicked down to $15,000 There will be no gold this year for Eskimo Clark. He has been eliminated from the Main Event. Perhaps he'll fare better in this year's Iditarod. Johnny Chan was eliminated when his A-J went up against David Solomon's pocket 8's. An ace flopped, but Soloman held the 8 of clubs. When four clubs hit the board, Solomon's flush, was good enough to send 10 time bracelet winner, Johnny Chan, home on Day 1 of three day 1's. |

Spirit Rock out early.
I was at his table. ESPN kept coming over to our table filming this young player (who showed up an hour late). He was very aggressive, and we had no idea who he was. He made several huge overbets that went uncalled. On a board of TJ3, he moves in for over 10k on a 1k pot within the first two levels. Player with 33 instantly calls him, and SR gets no help. |
