Re: NFL running backs
[ QUOTE ]
YPC from a backup with less than 100 carries is irrelavent, [/ QUOTE ] ??? No it's not. LMJ was one of the most productive backs in the league last year. He went from a dominating O-Line to a pitiful one and he's paying the price. See also: Clinton Portis. |

Was he last year, despite his 3.8 YPC? Yes. Will he ever put up numbers like he did in Denver (1500 yds, 5.5 avg, 15 TD)? Probably not. But that doesn't mean he's not going to have a big positive impact on an offense. LMJ is not going to have a positive impact on an offense, because he's just average (unless you are the Raiders and average is a huge step up). |

Re: NFL running backs
[ QUOTE ]
Last year, Lamont Jordan ran for 5.2 ypc. This year he's running for 3.5. What's the difference between these two years? How well do you think LT would run for Oakland? Shaun Alexander? [/ QUOTE ] jack lt would run awesome anywhere. he did just fine playing for the crappy O-line sd had for a couple years when he first came into the league. i think lt was the one that carried this team on his back when brees was still getting adjusted to the nfl and when sd had the qb swapping in their starting roster. last year he played through an injury and still produced numbers most backs have difficulty achieving healthy. lt is the best back in the league and for now the best player in the league. olines are very important and i am so happy sd got a year with hudson hauck. the whole offense improved a lot with him there. it also didnt hurt to find a few late round picks developing into pretty good starters. |

Re: NFL running backs
LaMont Jordan was flat-out awesome last year. My point was maybe Oakland should try to improve their O-Line if they wish to get good rushing numbers. It's much cheaper to construct a great O-Line than it is to acquire a great back. They stay healthier, too.

Re: NFL running backs
LT was pretty bad in his rookie year and below average last year. It's to be expected as a rookie and he was hobbled with an ankle injury last year. But it's important to understand that, production wise, he was below average. That's simply a fact.
LaMont Jordan will probably come close to achieving the numbers LT did last year. He's on pace for 1800 yards from scrimmage... |

Re: NFL running backs
How about the Cardinals...is JJ Arrington or Marcell Shipp a premiere running back?? Hell no, Also there is a big difference between Shaun Alexander (the best hb in the NFL) and maybe Kevin Barlow or Marcell Shipp as the worst starting HB in the NFL....If you look at the 3 worst teams in the league they all have HB problems..the Packers lost Ahman Green, The texans have a streaky and injury prone Davis...and the Saints lost Mcallister for season..so HB is very important in a teams success and theres a big difference between the worst and the best, and Reggie Bush should and will be the #1 overall pick

Re: NFL running backs
I agree. Of course people will point out exceptions. Tomlinson had a great 2003 season behind a crappy OL for example. In general though, you are correct. Antowain Smith was probably the worst starting RB in the AFC when the Pats won 2 SB's. Does anybody remember Lamar Smith and the monster year he had for the Dolphins pre Ricky Williams? Then there's the Cowboys going 10-6 with Troy Hambrick a couple years ago. Yeah, give me a good OL.
