And I would like to know the circumstances behind those 18 game winning hits.

[/ QUOTE ]

Should it really matter? They won, he got the RBI that got the team over the top, end of story. Does it matter if it was in the first, the fifth, or the nineth?

How many times has Ortiz done the 9th inning thing this year? 3?, 4?, 5? So you're giving the guy the MVP because he was most valuable in 5 games over a 162 game season?

Besides, if sublime is backing A-Rod, then this argument is over.

[it was a drastic idea, and failed.

clutch doesnt exist.

there is nothing visonary about saying ortiz is MVP.

I know you like to be the man when it comes to all things Red Sox and it irked you that I said it, you all scorched me and then they did it.

1. It didn't fail. Schilling wasn't a rousing success as a closer but he stemmed the tide and the Sox stayed in first place.

2.That's silly yo say clutch doesn't exist.I know all you stats guys adore bill James but just because he says it doesn't exist doesnt make it so.

3. We'll see after the vote. I'm betting he is 3rd at the worst.

In that crucial 9th inning at bat in the biggest game of the year, who would you want up there?

[/ QUOTE ]

So by this logic, your beloved Big Papi should ride the pine until the game is tied in the 9th, then the Sox should take him off the bench to win the game. Obviously, thats all he is capable of doing.

Hmmm, clutch, 9th inning, wins the game for his team....I GOT IT! I'm changing my vote to..............Mariano Rivera!

It's not silly when you say that's all he's capable of? Cmon, get a grip.

I'm sorry, I must have missed the part about him being a 5 tool player. Of course he can steal bases and bat .320. How silly of me!

That isn't what you wrote. What you wrote was silly, quit trying to pretty it up.

1. he sucked as a closer. a callup from the minors would have done better.

2. its not just bill james. its anyone who has done studies on the subject. instead of mediots and fans swearing it exists, without having anything other than what they 'think' to back it up.

3. 3rd at worst? ok. who cares? he is still FAR behind A-rod.

I'm not trying to pretty it up. Your argument for making Ortiz the MVP is solely based on his 9th inning performance over a mere handful of games. My suggestion of Mariano Rivera, or any closer for that matter, is perfect in this spot.

You must see by now that his heroics in a handfull of games doesn't make him the MVP of a 162 game season.
