Only busted because of the rake
Great story last night! As many expected, this game was targeted because the host was raking the pots. The LAPD said that Poker is not legal, but they're not going to go after regular home games.
Excellent news, I can list may game on the internet again. I still think it's lame that all the players were cited. I think in this case, everyone should be let off with a warning, hopefully at least the absolute min. fine. I'd still like to hear from the host. Let me know if he's in court. I doubt they'll give him all his equipment back though. |

...for money, checks, chips, credit, pennants, cigars, candy, merchandise or other valuable thing... [/ QUOTE ] I can see it now, somebody's gonna get busted for playing poker for lifesavers. I guess even toothpicks is covered under "other valuable thing". |

Re: LA Game busted!
[ QUOTE ]
I play in some of these home games in the LA area so I just made a few phone calls to the local police departments and code enforcement. Turns out that even though home games are legal by California Penal code 337j, certain cities do still make it illegal. So far I have verified that it is illegal in the following cities: Los Angeles, Glendale, Burbank, San Gabriel and even Sherman Oaks which apparently falls under the city of Los Angeles. [/ QUOTE ] Sherman oaks is part of the city of LA as is the rest of the san fernando valley excluding burbank/san fernando/glendale... |
