[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Even if my worst fears on the turn were correct (as they were), I still had two outs and the pot is attractive enough for me to call the turn hoping for the miracle river Yup, as long as you can get 15 bets out of him when the Jack hits. [/ QUOTE ] [/ QUOTE ] ? [/ QUOTE ] ! |

Sklansky taking shots at Jones is nowhere near as egregious as you taking shots at the Great White North and that most noble of professions - I speak of course of law.
Guess you must view me as a two time loser..heh Seriously, loved the crack about the 780 Canadian score amounting to 300 or so in Yankee doodle country...heh...priceless |

Yes you are. You can't go making folds like this against randoms, especially in Las Vegas. So what that he had the hand here; suppose he didn't? I know that if you do this out in the Bay Area you'll be broke. I'm not saying that the players are better or not, I'm just saying that you can't fold there. Some random schmuck at the Mirage is far more likely to have a worse hand than you think.

The fact that the "unknown" player in this hand coldcalled an UTG raise with no callers in between (though his exact position isn't indicated) should make it a lot less likely that he's a "thinking player."

As for folding on the turn or calling on the river, it certainly is a good guideline. Nothing is 100% in poker. Making these types of plays often is a sure fire way to blow money.

Yknow, i thought about that part of my post today. Wasn't sure if i should have put it in as i wasn't sure if i explained it right. But in comparison to Oz's concept that he brought up, i thought it may be relevant. In Oz's concept that he brought up, those are more 'known' players.
I almost made a different post/thread about playing against unknowns and the first image, in this regard, that you want to portray to them. I want them to think they will likely have to bet stronger hands into me on the river. Keep them more readable for as long as i can. thanks for the response. Im glad i left it in. b |

Here's a thought to ponder.
Do you play differently against this player now that you know he had 94o, than if you didn't see his cards? If you didn't see his cards, how do you begin to categorize him? How far off would you/would you not be? After all, you know minimal about him prior to this hand. b |
