I didnt really make this a big point at the beginning of all of this because i didnt think people would get hooked on numbers like this which really dont matter.

Didn't mean to hijack, I have been considering playing a lot more NL online, and I'm glad I ran across this. When you factor in the learning curve and everything, this would have almost certainly have been -ev for me, and the future dividends I'd be hoping for seem to just not be there.

If the earn is your big concern that's cool. But NL is fun and learning a new game is fun and interesting as well. Anytime I start to get bored I usually have a great time playing something else. Once you get competent at lots of games it's obviously good cause you can practice really good game selection.

His winrate is only a little over 3 bb per 100 hands. Are you f'n kidding me!?!? In the 2000nl my winrate is over 10 bb per 100 hands after 40k hands. I do play short handed of course...

Come back and let us know how it's going at the 200,000 hand mark.

Thanks

I'm a competent/decent big bet player live with deepstacks, but I'm generally averse to the whole online 100bb buyin cap structure, so if I had made the switch, it would've definately have been just for the money.

Well I'm being serious and perhaps small brained. But this is giving me the same vibe as that Carleton Sheets real estate show on tv. I mean, why would Carleton be telling me this info to make $ if he could just be out there doing it himself. There are people like this in poker who prolly don't beat the games well but do lots of "teaching" to get paid...cough cough, Phil Gorden and Mike Caro come to mind...cough cough...

People don't suck at poker because they don't have access to information, they suck at poker because they are dumb and suck at poker.

Default Step 1: Buy KKF\'s database. Step 2: .... Step 3: Profit.

I'm thinking that perhaps the best way to profit from KKF's database is to buy one copy from KKF, then turn around and undercut him by burning copies of the copy.

BTW, if anyone wants a $50 discount on KKF's database, I'm selling copies for $300.

I would never ever sell my hand history database nor will I ever post any of my hands on any message board.
Its pretty pathetic that one of the most looked up players on the board is not even that good of a player and has a low win rate.

Just curious, but is 200k hands the generally accepted level at which winrates converge? Is there any real science to this assumption or is it as arbitrary as all the old people who used to say "100k hands is the benchmark where you can tell if you are a winner in limit hold 'em," only to be proven completely wrong.

James, I'm not really sure what the benchmark is. A few months ago I would have suspected that 50k hands was plenty. The more I read in MHNL the more I hear about how much we all underestimate the variance of this game, especially in NL2000.

My reply to the other guy wasn't really meant to be as snide as it might have come across, I was just trying to suggest that before he goes around bashing one of the good contributors to this forum about winrates, he should get a sample size that's a little more comparable.

The same standard might not apply for someone else who regularly contributes to this forum, and I'm sure you and others can see why.

I am just saying that telling him to come back in 200k hands likely won't solve anything. A player who has run that ridiciulously hot is very VERY likely to be well above his real expectation when he reaches 200k hands. Will it be 10/100? Heavens, I hope not. But it will be above what he should normally expect. I'd say 200k hands is probably enough to get a good idea if you start counting at hand 0. But when you already have a sample of 40k that seems to be an outlier, a 200k sample will almost definitely be misleading(though less misleading as the first 40k).
