Tight is right. It's an old one, but boy, is it true.
Another one I read the other day, from Layne Flack, that I like a lot (paraphrased): "Playing poker well isn't about learning to read your opponents; it's about learning to read how your opponents are reading you." Gives you an idea as to the types of things you want to be thinking about when you're playing. |

[ QUOTE ]
"Poker Advice. Everybodies got some; the people who wanna share don't know what they are talking about, the people you wannna share probably wouldn't tell you the truth anyway." Reading Books by Poker Experts and Experience are the only surefire ways to learn. [/ QUOTE ] If the people who share don't know what they're talking about wouldn't that logic mean one should avoid poker books. Clearly these people want to share this information with us. I'm a little confused by that one. Furthermore if we abide by this logic, then its completely pointless to be reading this forum. All this wasted time! Thanks for opening my eyes to the lie I've been living. |

It's just a game.
(that more applies to people like me where it's only a hobby. I would think it is a bit more important to those who are playing professionally) |

Basically, it was “shut up!”
When I was really learning to play the game well... I was so excited about all the stuff I was learning that I would blab to my friends that we were playing with. So my wife told me “You really need to shut up.” lol |

"Don't go broke in an unraised pot; Don't get all-in with top pair and you'll respect yourself in the morning."
-- told to me by a friend right before my first NLHE tournament. That advice helped me get 6th and my first cash, it was 2x buyin and I was HOOKED! |

Most of the answers are bleh.
"Always look left." and "forget what you have in your hand for a moment and think about what's in your opponents." |
